Behind the Image: Housewife Wonderland.

Housewife Wonderland, New York City, 2025

This image is part of a series called Wonderland. What’s interesting is that the makeup, hair, and wardrobe were originally created for a completely different image — a studio setup with a colder, more controlled feel. We were already wrapping up that set when something unexpected happened.

From Wonderland series, original set.

As we were about to finish, the sun started setting, and golden hour light began coming through the kitchen window. It completely changed the mood of the space. We paused and thought, what if we played with a different idea using the same look?

There’s something about that contrast — this almost perfect, stylized character placed in a domestic setting — that felt right. It touched on that polished, suburban, “town-house” aesthetic that feels familiar but slightly surreal at the same time. Not planned, just observed in the moment.

What really made it click was the shadow aligning with the eye. That happened naturally, and from the first frame, it felt strong. We followed that instinct and kept shooting for a few minutes.

This image ended up becoming one of my favorites from the entire series. Not because it was planned, but because it came from staying open to a new idea right at the end — letting the light, the space, and the moment guide the image.
